Dream jobs

Recently at work we had a discussions about what our dream (ordinary) job would be. Which may be tempting fate as I work in the NHS. It has got me thinking and i am torn between a professional dog walker or a postman. The main reason I am drawn to these jobs is it must be so lovely to be out walking all day!

Rooney Saga

I am not one for celebrity gossip, sure i like the gossip magazines and sites, but they don't really bother me. But this Wayne and Coleen saga (and to some extent the Cheryl and Ashley Cole saga) really has stired up feelings within me including the following
  • How could Wayne do it to his pregnant wife? Does he have no compassion or love for his family?
  • why would he do it? hasn't he got enough?
  • Where is the young girls morals and values?
  • where is there conscience?
  • What drives them to do such awful things?

I don't mean to sound mean but i believe in what comes around, goes around. I certain hope Karma comes around and bites these despicable footballers and their "lady" friends on the bum.

For my non-british followers here is what I m taking abouthttp://http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/943856/Wayne-Rooney-cheats-on-Coleen-again-with-21-year-old-hooker.html

Hindsight

http://http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00tlm9r/Underage_and_Pregnant_Series_2_Cacherrah_and_Chenice/ I was watching underage and pregnant. I really felt for the young girls in this episode. The phrase "isn't hindsight a wonderful thing" springs to mind. I just wish it was not true and you didn't have to go through the pain to learn your lessons in life.

On the buses

This week on the buses I have heard/ seen 3 thing that I have found worrying/encouraging
  • Firstly I heard a conversation between a chap and 2 women. He was explaining that he is looking for a apprenticeship for his 15 year old son as he is not letting him go to college as £30 EMA money is shit and he needs to start earning for his mum! a few thing struck me with this is were was the young lads choice in the matter? how irresponsible is the dad?
  • Secondly I over heard 2 (i presume 16-17 year old) discussing the amount of money they were receiving for going to college and it was in the hundreds! I was gobsmacked since when did kids get paid to go to college? What really made my blood boil was that they talked about wasting there money on skateboarding, beer etc.
  • Thirdly a young couple, or at least the young lass, had left her purse on the back seat of the bus, i called her to let her know. Both her and her chap was so polite and couldn't thank me enough. It really did warm my heart.

You are you what you eat

I always thought that you are what you eat was the name of a pants TV show. But after a week of dieting i think it is a very true statement. For the past year or so i have had chronic indigestion on a daily basis. Last Friday i started eating more healthily abd cutting out the crap in my diet, since then I have had no indigestion, so the moral of the story is you defiantly are what you eat.

If I am missing or dead - Janine Latus

My first thoughts after reading this book was that the author is a very brave lady to have written this book. OK, it is not the best written book i have ever read, but still very good read. It is very thing to say these days that the author poured her heart and soul in to this book. I found it very moving and inspirational.

Monday 23 August 2010

Trip to the library

I had a walk to my local library and came back with the following audio book

  • Dave Gormans Googlewhack adventure

  • Ian Rankin Black and Blue

  • Sue Townsend Adrian Mole the Cappuccino Years

  • Jill Mansell Sheer Mischief

  • Trish Ashley A winters Tale

I am a massive audio book fan, they are just brilliant to lay when you are doing the housework!

Becomig more active and earning extra money

After my shock I've realised two things that I would like to change about myself. The first thing is that I have recently put on a lot of weight and so unfit and I am leading a very sedatery life. So on payday I am going to buy a bike to get me moving. I hope to kick start my healthy eating on pay day as well, I have come to the conclusion the saying 'you are what you eat' is very true because eating crap is certainly making me feel crap! The second thing is that i would like to earn a few extra quid so i am going to start selling Avon and I am also considering taking up dog walking as this would help with the getting fit. Also put a bit more effort into the writing career as that can bring in a few extra quid as well........The joys of the modern life!

Wednesday 18 August 2010

I am still in full time employment

yay.......... I have my job back! What a relief. It feels like such a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It sounds like such a cliche but it really has been a life changing experience. When you have faced being made homeless and loosing your lively hood, it sure does make you appreciate every single good thing you have in your life. It also makes you want to strive to be better.

Saturday 14 August 2010

I am not homeless

My landlord has kindly revoked my notice yay.... just need my boss to do the same now!!!!!!

Friday 13 August 2010

Can things get any worse?

When i started this blog my intention was not too whinge and moan but today I am going to make an exception. Mainly because i received a phone call saying that my new job offer has been withdrawn due to budget constraints in the NHS! So if my landlord and manager wont accept my revoked notices I am jobless and homeless........what a bunch of bastards!

Wednesday 11 August 2010

Highs and lows

These past three and four weeks I've had an awful time, I am currently in the process of moving and changing jobs and the bureaucracy is killing me. Current update: my new job has received all references, my crb and my occi health check, so just waiting for the powers that be to send me my contract and confirmation! My new house that I have found and fallen in love with the landlord has accepted me as a tenant. Again just waiting for my financial references to come back. All the above plus a bad case of post holiday blues has crippled me. I have not read 1 single blog, book, short story or watched a film, 'it' (which i assume is a bad case of anxiety/ depression) has literally sucked all my life, creativity and motivation out of me. All i have literally done for 3 weeks is eat shit (not quite literally), lay on the sofa and go to work.
But my creative guardian angel must be watching over me because shes has sent me an email which has restored my confidence and creative juices going! The email was from a gentleman who was putting together an Anthology of poems to raise money to save The Odeon building in Bradford. He liked my poem and is publishing it in the Anthology! Even better line from my poem is going to be in the title of the Anthology and if that wasn't exiting enough I've been invited to the preview/launch with the possibility of giving a reading! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She has defiantly given me back my confidence and drive and now I am determined to get back on track with my writing.

Tuesday 3 August 2010

stardust

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0486655/ Not my normal cup of tea, but thoroughly enjoyed this film. It had a fabulous story line, and a great English cast. It was nice to see such a successful collaboration between Brits and Americans. The highlight of this film is Robert De Niros cross dressing can can dance and Ricky Gevais getting stabbed.

Monday 2 August 2010

normal service will resume..soon

I am having one of those weeks were everything is going wrong and it feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. But I know it will pass and normal service will resume

Angel News

At the moment Angel has been protesting very vocally about her week long stay at the cattery. she has shown her displeased through following me around, shouting at me and refusing to play. I wouldn't mind if the cattery was a terrible place, but she was pampered and spoiled by the owners, who nicknamed her the pampered pink princess, because of all he blankets and accessories. Prior to her ordeal Angel was doing very well. She had developed a novel way of keeping herself hydrated. drinking out of the bath, and not from the cold tap either! Her water obsession doesn't stop there, she can often e found sat on the edge of the bath, watching me bath and shower. I bought her some cat grass and grew it for her but she wouldn't even sniff it. her love affair with bags continues to be as strong as every. She does have 2 favourites the big blue Ikea bags and the Disney store bags.

Hope everyone elses cats/pets are doing well.

Wednesday 28 July 2010

Home Sweet Home

I am back after an amazing holiday! I am rather ashamed to say I went with very low expectations. I thought it would be a sleazy, trashy place. But I was proved very wrong.Turkey was absolutely, incredibly beautiful. With a stunning mountain range, which I was lucky to stay at the bottom of, in the most luxurious apartments I have ever stayed in. I had a blissful week of eating, drinking, reading, laughing, walking, swimming, boat trips and chilling. I didn't want to come back. But hey ho I am back and surprising energised and full of writing ideas!

Sunday 18 July 2010

Leaving on a jet plane

See you all in a week I am going to Turkey in the early hours of the morning, lots of sun, sea and relaxing. Hope Angel forgives me for putting her in the cattery!

What the post man brought me 21

A very heavy bag for my postman

  • James Patterson Big Bad Wolf a swap from Read it Swap it, I love James Patterson books. I love the short chapters that you promise yourself you will only read 1 chapter but are still sat with the book in your hand 20 chapters later.

  • Tess Gerritsen Keeping the Dead a swap from Read it Swap it, I am ashamed to say I have lots of Gerristen books on my tbr pile but never got round to reading them.

  • Baggage My Childhood Janet Street Porters auto biography. Another of my swaps from RISI I am exited to read this as i like Janet, even if she has made some bad career decisions in the last couple of years

  • The Olive Route Carol Drinkwater, again another swap from RISI. A book for the escapist and adventurous side of me

What the postman brought me 20

Mr postman was very happy today he only had two things to bring me

  • Get Smart DVD a purchase from Play.com, bought because I love Steve Carrell. I think he is one of the funniest men to come out of the US

  • Celia Ahern's The Gift- a swap on Read it Swap it, I realised I haven't read a Ahern book for at least 4 years! Decided it was time to rectify that!

Thursday 15 July 2010

bargains of the day

A few charity shop buys

  • 3 Mills and Boons books for 99p; Untamed Italian, Blackmailed Innocent, The Arabian Mistress and Husband and Wife Reunion. Great for research purposes and also they are fantastic to read after a really heavy, hard going book.

  • Collins Quotations 99p, great for flicking through for inspiring a letter or short story.

  • Julia Cameron, The right to Write £1.50. A great book of inspiring essays on writing another one of my coffee table books. Great to dip in to when I have a few spare minutes.

Sunday 11 July 2010

Bargain of the day

Tears of the Giraffe, Alexander McCall Smith, 10p from local library. Another to add to my Ladies detective agency collection

Saturday 10 July 2010

Being John Malkovich

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0120601/ Probably one of the most bizare and strange films I have ever seen but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Charlie Kaufman must have an amazing mind to come up with such a unique story, I would like a portal into Kaufmans mind. I would haveloved a trip into John Malkovich's mind, hes a fantastic actor loved him in thDs film. My favourte actor in this film was Cameron Diaz, such a change from her to play a frizzy haird geek. Also John Cusak deserves a mention for his acting skills.

Friday 9 July 2010

City Lives- Patricia Scanlan

I absolutely adore Irish chic-lit, it has to be my favourite type of chic lit. It sounds a silly thing to say but it is so magical and innocent. Life always seems far better in Ireland. This book did not fail to disappoint me. Great location, sassy men and a good mix of drama, led to me not being able to put this book down. The book was a little formulaic and predicable i.e disgruntled wife stands up to husband, pregnancy after loosing a child etc bu i don't care i enjoyed it.

Giveaway

http://http://justforyoudesigns.blogspot.com/2010/07/competition-giveaway.html A great crafty give away from Just for you blog

Thursday 8 July 2010

Bargains of the day

Visited my local library and found these two great books for 10p each!

  • Baltimore Blues- Laura Lipman i bought this for two reasons. Firstly because one of my favourite songs is Hungry Heart by Bruce Springsteen and there is a line that goes as follows 'got a wife and kid in Baltimore Jack', ever since then i always wondered about Baltimore. Secondly in an episode of The Wire I saw Det Moreland reading a Laura Lipman book,, so I thought I'd give her a try.

  • The No1 Ladies Detective Agency - Alexander McCall Smith- mainly because I have never read a novel set in Africa! Can you believe that?

Wednesday 7 July 2010

What the postman brought me 19

Mr postman kindly delivered to me:

  • Trust the man - a purchase from play.com, chosen o the basis that it is set in New York, which I am slightly obsessed with.

  • Brick- Another Play.com purchase, mainly bought because I think it is an interesting take on the crime genre.

  • The final series of Cold Feet- Another purchase from Play I've got this one because i love the series and I appreciate it more now than i did when i was younger

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Syrinana

http://http//http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365737/ I had this DVD on my shelf for months, I avoided it like the plague. I decided to give it a go a oh god was i shocked..it blew my socks off it was so good. the acting was faultless, George Clooney deserved his Oscar for his role he acted his socks off. Matt Damon and Jeffery Wright(a favourite of mine) were also very good. But if the truth be told there was not one single bad actor in the film. I loved how the film had Parallel story lines, which i felt gave the story a balanced approach. The film left me wondering how true to life this story is? my guess would be it is very true to life.

Saturday 3 July 2010

I miss my duvet

I never ever thought I would ever write a post like this but here goes. I am really happy weathers cooling down, so I can have my duvet back on my bed. I have been sleeping with a very thin sheet on, or should that be not sleeping.

Tuesday 29 June 2010

What the postman bought me 18

The postman brought me this beautiful blanket for my fur baby Angel. It was crocheted by a friend's mum. I love that it is personalised for Angel I can imagine Angel in the cattery telling the other cats to get their paws off her blanket. I asked for the blanket to be done in pinks and purples because I have a deep down desire for Angel to be a girly cat, but she is not she is defiantly a tomboy. If she was human she'd be out playing football with lads and climbing trees. I think her elegance and beauty are very deceiving!

Saturday 26 June 2010

Pleasant surprise

After what i thought to be a disastrous job interview with NHS Direct two weeks ago, i finally got a call to say that i had been successful. It just goes to show that you ever can tell these things.
I am now house/flat hunting in Wakefield, but am having trouble finding somewhere that lets you have pets. Ive got two months to find something!

Wednesday 23 June 2010

Bargains of the day

Two great charity shop finds. First of all a bottle of Marks and Spencers Magnolia bubble bath for 50p, what a bargain! I love the stuff, leaves my skin all lovely and soft. Secondly a Crab Tree &Evelyn rose gift set for 99p! I was very exited when i saw this on the shelve. I have to admit I am a bit of a snob, I like expensive toiletries (well ok when i can find them cheap in charity shops). I Particularly like Crabtree &Evelyn because it is so ...floral! When it comes to scents I love any type of floral scent, apart from Lavender (is lavender a plant or a flower?) I am rather fond of rose, if there is any beauty product with rose in the title I will buy it. Which I must ashamedly admit when I was younger I associated Rose or any flowery scents as for old ladies. I hold my hand up and say how wrong I was. Rose Rocks!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday 22 June 2010

Tru Calling seasons 1 and 2

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0364817/ I watched both seasons over a couple of weeks and was completely hooked! I really love anything to do with the supernatural and thought this was an interesting take on the genre. The morgue worker who is spoken to by the dead asking for help to solve there murders (I wonder if it ever happens!) I loved all of the actors and actresses. I thought they all geld really well and it was great to see my childhood crush Jason Priestly again, looking better then ever! The cases she solved was not predictable, as many American shows are, they always had me guessing. Tru also lived in an eclectic and stunning apartment, which had me glued as I have a bad case of apartment envy.

It is such a shame that this has been cancelled after 2 seasons, there was plenty of life left in the show, no pun intended!

Sunday 20 June 2010

Monster

This book is all about the Josef Fritzal, his early life and his later imprisonment of his daughter in the cellar and her treatment at the hands of her father. I found this book really well written and interesting. It does not sensationalize him or his crimes, it explores possible causes in a balanced way. One question that the book leaves you with is why the so many child abuse/imprisonment cases in Austria?

Friday 18 June 2010

Look At Me

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0374583/ The story had so much potential i.e. big daughter, successful dad, struggling artists etc. But as a story it did very little for me, it failed to move me or make me laugh. As a story i found it so bland. But on a positive note it was set in Paris an the French countryside. So I was glued to the sights, the food, the clothes, the apartments and the wine. There is something bout French films and the French culture that when it is bad it is till very good.

Maybe it means I am destined for a apartment in Paris to spend my days people watching

Tuesday 15 June 2010

Woman magazine this week

I am in it this week reviewing fake tans. I technically didn't write the reviews but i spoke them to the interview and she more or less quoted me word for word!
Mighty oaks and acorns spring to mind.

What the postman brought me 17

The postman kindly delivered to me Prison Break Season 1. I ever got around to watching it when it was on TV. I am thinking of something intelligent to say but cant think so I'll tell the truth. Bought it to see lots of hot men in prison.

Saturday 12 June 2010

when did the world turn expensive?

Last night I went to the cinema, for a student ticket and a small soft drink it cost me £8.60. I personally think that is a scandalous amount of money. It got me thinking at what point in time did everything get so expensive? Was it a gradual thing or did it just happen over night?

What the post me brought me 16

Well, he really brought this parcel for Angel. It is a toy bag crochet by a kind lady's mum from the Your Cat forum. I really like the colours on this bag. I didn't realise that pink, purple, white and yellow go together so well. I love that she personalised, stitching her name on it.It really makes me want to take up knitting and crocheting but i don't have a arty creative bone in my body! well apart from cross stithing, but it never turns out neat. I often wonder what it is about me that neatness hates?

Friday 11 June 2010

Bargains

Another trip to the charity shop, another interesting buy. This time my purchase was £1.99 and from Oxfam. It is a book called The Book for the Home, which was published in 1963. The main reason i bought it was to get some inspiration/ideas for he tips pages in magazines. I have had a glance through it and looks like a bible for the proud house owner. With advice on everything from how to store your household linen to budgeting your weekly allowance. As i flick through the pages I am filled with a sadness, almost longing for that bygone era that I never knew but would love to have been apart of.

Thursday 10 June 2010

Bargain of th day

I found this colourful bracelet in the Barnardo's shop for 69p. It is no my normal style of jewellery, as I a bit of a plain Jane but I just couldn't leave it in the shop. There is no 'markings' on the bracelet, so I don't know were it is from and who made it. The romantic in me wishes it was made by some struggling artist trying to earn crust but in reality it was probably made in some sweat shop in India!

Wednesday 9 June 2010

An Officer And A Gentleman

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0084434/ This is one of those films I have never gotten around to watching. It hooked me from the very first poignant scene in the brothels and bars of the Philippines. I could take my eyes off the screen for a second!I can not review this film with out mentioning how good Richard Gere looked as a younger man, i was certainly pleasantly surprised. He also acted really well, he made me cry with his reactions to his friend Sids suicide and his steely determination towards succeeding in his career. My only fault in this film is that I did not like the female characters in the film. Mainly because I cant relate to women who marry or seek out men for status. Overall a fantastic way to spend 122 minutes of my life.

Very Proud

Today I am very proud of myself, after a terrible job interview, bad toothache and a bad stomach, to see a letter I wrote to Woman's Weekly published. The letter was a thank you letter for mentioning www.readitswapit.co.uk, in an article about saving money. It is also my first paid piece of writing! OK so i cant exactly retire on £10, but that's not the point. I see letter writing as serving an apprenticeship on hopefully a long writing career.

Tuesday 8 June 2010

Job interview today

Today I had a job interview for NHS direct (which went terrible!). It got me thinking about jobs. Is it best to move jobs regularly , maybe every 18 months 2-years or i it best to stay in a job for a long time? what do you think?

Saturday 5 June 2010

It's gone...

My first short story has no officially been posted to Take a break. Now need a plan to stop me checking my post box for the next 2or 3 months. Any ideas?

Friday 4 June 2010

Bargain of the day

I bought these cute Marks and Spencer's earrings from the Barnardos charity shop for 50p. I thought they was very cute. I had to buy them as a reminder to myself of how views and opinions change with time and age. The reason why I say/write this is because when I was a kid I used to hate Marks and Spencer's thinking it was a shop for old Lady's and snobs. But now a great deal of my clothes come from Marks and Spencer's, particularly love the t-shirts so comfy and long lasting. Marks and Spencer's have a perfume called Florentyna, which smells like floral heaven to me. The food, again can not be faulted in my opinion. Always tasty and yummy!

Tuesday 1 June 2010

My first short story

Well about two weeks ago I wrote my first ever short story. It is the tale of a jealous bridesmaid and her antics at her friends wedding. I really enjoyed the process of writing it and it was easier than i imagined it to be. I sent it off to my tutor and I thought he would say it is pants, but he said he loved it and there was a few grammatical tweaks be made. But he said I should send it to Take a break or Bella for publication. It is amazing what a bit of positive feedback can do to keep you moving in the pursuit of writing ambitions.

Angel News

Well Angel is now fully recovered from her spaying. She has taken to sulking and ignoring me big style when I dare to do a night shift. she is continuing to be very inquisitive. She has now discovered my work surfaces and the kitchen sink, which gives her hours of exploring opportunity's. She has also found a way to climb on to my clothes horse and proceed to she all her hairs on my clothes.I received a lovely birthday card with a little bell on it which she proceeded to steal and hide in the flat. Since I last blogged I have discovered Angel has is scared of the fan I have in my lounge, the first time i put it on her tail doubled in size and she ran off, she is very slowly getting used to it. I have also discovered wood based cat litter, which is just amazing no more nasty smells or white buts all over my carpet and don't need to change it as often yay!€

Ross Kemp Gangs

I really did not know what to expect when I picked this book, but I was really pleasantly surprised. I thought that Ross Kemp presented a balanced view of the gangs, speaking to both gang members and police. He also didn't sugar coat there brutal crimes or try to make martyrs of the gang members. This book really made me think outside of the box and see the bigger picture about gangs, such as poverty, abuse, government parties etc. I did not know much about Ross Kemp, apart from him being in Eastenders but after reading the book he seems a real sweetie pie.

Pets

Isn't it amazing how much our pets teach us about ourselves here are a few things Angel has taught me about myself

  • I am a secret mother hen, I love feeding her, grooming her, cleaning up after here and generally fussing over
  • I was lonely living on my own in Bradford until she came along
  • I was wrong about crazy cat ladies
  • My job as a nurse has made me obsessed with how often Angel goes to the toilet
  • I am good at cat football
  • I love the smell of pets at home

Whats your pet taught you about yourself?

What the postman brought me 15

Another light load for good old Mr Postman

  • Hidalgo DVD a purchase from Playtrade. I chose this because it stars Viggo Mortensen, who i just love. He is what I'd class as an old school mans mans. The kind of guy who never worries what he looks like, too busy doing manly pursuits!

  • Enchanted DVD another purchase from Playtrade. I chose this because it stars the lovely Patrick Dempsey aka McDreamy. Patrick Dempsey has to be the most handsome actor around these days. He has one lucky wife.

After reading this post I would like to reassure readers I don't just buy DVDs because the leading man is yummy... well not a lot!

Sunday 23 May 2010

First Do No Harm

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0118526/ over the years I have worked with many people who have epilepsy so I was eager to watch this film.I wasn't disappointed as always Meryl Streep was fantastic, as a mother lioness figure and the family were a very believable slice of American pie. All the acting was very good. I found the film really informative and left me wanting to know more about the special diet. As always in these kind of films, the portrayal of the medical profession was not flattering, but the sad thing is it is like that in real life.

Saturday 22 May 2010

Dream Job

Does anyone wish they had a different job or looked at someone and envied them for their job? well I do. Apart from being a writer I would love to be a postman, it would be ideal job the freedom, the shorter hours, no one standing over you and days wondering what is inside letters packages! If only I could afford to become a postman.

Thursday 20 May 2010

Tell No One

http://http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tell_No_One I found this film a little hard going mainly as dumb as it sounds because i read Harlen Coben novels and they are in English and I couldn't seem to get my head around the fact that it was in French! which ruined the film for me and enhanced all of its faults i.e mainly it was very dreary. But on the plus side, no matter how bad the film is I always love watching French films. They always either look very glamorous or mean and moody. There clothes are fantastic, there homes are amazing, they eat fabulous food and have great sex!

Tuesday 18 May 2010

The Madness of King George

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0110428/ I am really sad to say that I did not like this film at all. Which really upsets me because I am Alan Bennets biggest fan. It was mildly amusing, but it swayed from amusing to annoying, particularly Georges repetition of words. Which I know were caused by his illness, but I found it irritating possibly due to the fact that his illness wasn't portrayed sympathetically enough. I didn't think anyone acted particularly well. On a plus side the locations were stunning in the film.

Monday 17 May 2010

The Lakes

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0122579/ I borrowed this DVD from a friend after seeing it on her shelf and vaguely remembering from my youth. As soon as I put it the DVD player it instantly brought back memories of how fantastic this series is. First of all it was written by Jimmy McGovern, who I would argue has written some of the best shows i recent times. He didn't fail with The Lakes, it really reminds me a Shakespearean tragedy with themes of love, sex, death, murder, adultery, religion etc. The language and dialogue was very poignant and poetic, one of the most haunting scenes ( and there was many) the drowned girls funeral an the uncle sings I know a millionaire. All the characters were very flawed, I liked them all my two particular favourites were Danny and The Chef. Danny was played by one of Britain's finest actors John Simms. Loved him because even though he was a chronic gambler he had the biggest heart and the most morals in the Lakes. The Chef was fantastic character i liked him mainly because he was so brazen about sleeping his way through the village. Again another show with a fantastic 90's soundtrack. This show will stay with me for many years to come.

What the postman brought 14

The postman has not had much to bring as I've been tightening the old purse strings lately. But I did manage to get The House at Riverton from a swap at RISI. I've heard and read lots of good reviews of this book. But I was really drawn to the front cover picture of the gate and beautiful garden, cant wait to read it.

Maria Full Of Grace

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0390221/ I was attracted to this film by its title and its religious connotations. You don't normally associate drug mules with the virgin Mary, but I can see some loose links between Mary and Maria! Maria full of grace has too be the most powerful film I have seen in a long time. Its power was in its simplicity of story, of a young girl searching for a better life, which I closely relate to. I also think this story must play out every day of the year across the world. Catalino Sandino Moreno deserved her Oscar nomination for her role was a phenomenal Maria, her acting will stay with me for a very long time.

Nail Polish

Recently I have been feeling down so thought I would cheer myself up painting my nails and start taking care of myself a bit more. But I cant seem to do them neat. I am generally am a untidy person. Is this the cause or is it something else?

James Patterson The Jester

I was reluctant to read this book, as I am more used to the Alex Cross and Woman's Murder Club books. I had mixed feelings as i did not want patterson to ruin the crusades for me. But I am really glad I did, it was a riveting fast paced action thriller. I am 100% certain that it was not historically accurate and I am sure Patterson used every cliche in the historical fiction/ romance/thriller genre, but I don't care I enjoyed reading it. I loved that it was full of what i would class as filth and dirty jokes, guess I am a dirty girl at heart.

Angel News

Angel has sprung a few surprises on me since I last wrote firstly she has a death wish. This death wish manifests itself in her obsession with my iron and ironing board. If shes not jumping on the ironing board shes sniffing the iron and if shes not sniffing the iron shes biting the cable. Another surprise is she's becoming a lap cat, spending hours sat in my lap .She was spayed and micro chipped last week. She wasn't herself for a couple of days, didn't eat much and very withdrawn, was really worried about her. But know she is back to eating like a horse and running around lie a nutter.

What the postman brought me 13

My poor postman had another heavy bag, he must hate me!

  • The Reaping DVD- From Play.com, chosen this for the two fantastic actors Hillary swank and David Morrisey. Also the 10 plagues seem an interesting theme

  • The Best of Louis Theroux 's Weird Weekends DVD- Another buy from Play.com, I bought this because I think Theroux is a highly intelligent with a very rare talent.

  • Will and Grace Season 3- From Play.com, I laugh my head off at this, can't wait to watch it

  • Feather Boy-Nicky Singer- Bought this from Play.com after seeing it recommended in the Guardian many months ago

  • Belinda Jones-Living La Vida Loca, a kind donation from LovelyTreez http://http//www.lovelytreez.com/ . I always have a soft spot Belinda Jones, as she introduced me to chic lit,and I've never looked back since.

Katie Fforde -Paradise Fields

I love Katie Fforde books,to me they are like you favourite warm comfy sweater. Warm and reassuring. Paradise fields, was enjoyable but not one of Ffordes best. I found the lead character Nel, very self deprecating which became annoying after a while. But I did find the supporting characters better written, especially the 'sensible' boyfriend Simon. I found the fight for the fields a written very disjointedly and uninspiring at times. If this was a school report I would grade this as C+, needs to try harder.

Bargin of the day

Found this Winnie the Pooh tin in the British Heart Foundation shop for 99p. It contained 8 little notelets and envelopes. I bought this because I have an obsession with tins and collect them. I don't Know why I love tins so much, maybe it is because they are fabulous for storing crap in! I also hoard notelets as well, as a symbol of my fight against the modern technological world. Winnie the Pooh, who doesn't like Winnie the Pooh?

Bargin of the day

I found this fabulous bowl for 50p in the RSPCA shop and instantly fell in love with it. It was hand painted in Perth Australia.

Along came a spider- dvd review

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0164334/ I am a massive James Patterson fan and eagerly looked forward to watching this film, and wasn't disappointed. I did think Morgan Freeman was a strange choice for Alex Cross, but he did really well. My only criticism was that there was no kids and Nana in the film. I didn't think that the film was true to the book, but hey I was not too fussed. I loved that the film moved as fast as the books and the baddie was a typical Patterson baddie. Overall a nice candyfloss thriller.

What the postman brought me 13

Another busy day for Mr Postman

  • Just Like Heaven DVD- I bought this from Play.com mainly because Mark Ruffalo is in it and rather shamefully bought this so I could gawp at him for 2 hours

  • Dead Poets Society DVD- Bought this DVD from Play.com, mainly because I love the title of the film

  • Akeelah and the bee DVD,- I bought this DVD on Play.com after seeing a recommendation on Entertainment Weekly website

  • Meg Cabot- Size 14 is not fat either- I bought this book on Play.com, after reading an interview with Meg Cabot in the writer and she sounded a really interesting women (and she lives in New York, which is always a plus in my eyes)

The Wire Season 1

http://http//www.imdb.com/title/tt0306414/ I watched this series over two days, and I was literally left speechless in awe of its greatness. The Wires gritty brutality and realism really struck a cord with me, in comparison with the other more gentler American crime shows. I loved that every character on the show was flawed ranging from the drunkard detective Mcnulty to the retribution seeking drug dealer Omar. The poverty and deprivation is (what imagine) very true to life. The cutting short of too many young men's due to drugs was rally shameful. The highlight of the show for me was Dominic West's accent, it is the best American accent I have ever heard, better than most Americans. The theme tune was really fitting, whats with HBO and theme tuns, thy pick the best ones.

Angel news

Since I last blogged about Angel she has developed some strange habits. She has a unhealthy obsession with my bathroom. She has taken to watching running taps, but bizarrely hates the water touching her. She enjoys balancing on the side of my bath. Last week I heard an almighty crash and Angel dashing out of the bathroom. On close inspection Angel had fallen in the bath and the only dry part of her body was her head. she didn't look impressed.Another habit of hers is sitting on my clothes horse, which i wouldn't mind but all my clothes are covered in cat hairs. Her playing habits are ls changing and developing, she has developed a liking for throwing and fetching, doggy style! On a positive note she is becoming very affectionate with me... just not any one else!

What the postman brought me 12

Enid Blytons Upper Fourth at Malory Towers. This is a swap from Read it Swap it, it was on my wish list mainly because I am interested in children's literature from a more innocent times. I am also a closet Blyton fan.
